In extremely poor taste...
In my Media and Consumer Society sociology class today I saw someone flaunt their socioeconomic status in, what I thought was, very poor taste. This is the same boy who brought in a magazine to show everyone a twenty thousand dollar watch and then talked about it as if it were nothing. "It's completely worth it because it's so timeless", were his words. Today he took it a few steps further.

The first time was when we were talking about designer bag knockoffs. We were discussing the sign value, ie whether or not your social status changes when people see you with a fake bag. This person got somewhat annoyed and went on a rant about how he and his friends make fun of these people: "if you can't afford it, don't buy a fake one," he said.

The second incident took place when he began defending designer outlets. He went on a five minute rant on how they are so much better than buying knockoffs. The professor tried to get him to stop talking and she actually had to raise her voice.

The this time he was talking about his uncle's house. His uncle had built a house. He just couldn't stop emphasizing how large the house was and how envious and ready the neighbors were to keep up with him.

I think this person should be flogged and all his designer clothes should be taken away. He's ugly anyway, the clothes don't do much for him.
